Discover the Language of Music
Not just music lessons—a complete journey into musicianship.
At Speak Music, kids start in small group classes that build strong foundations in rhythm, ear training, reading, and composition. They then move into our Masters program, choosing an instrument and continuing to write, rehearse, and perform with friends in bands and ensembles. Along the way, students learn to read, hear, and create music, so they experience the joy of music in true community.

Our Approach
At Speak Music, we believe real musicianship grows out of a full musical life—hearing, reading, moving, and creating music, not just playing it once a week in a lesson. Music is meant to be shared in community, so from the very beginning our students learn together, not in isolation.
Every child starts in small foundational group classes where they sing, play together, and explore rhythm, melody, harmony, and different compositional forms. From day one, we weave ear training, sight reading, music theory, and composition into a single experience, so understanding and creativity grow side by side.
Students begin composing and performing for each other in class right away, and soon share their work in concerts that flow naturally out of what they are learning together. The goal is not just polished pieces, but growing courage, curiosity, and deep musical thinking.
As they progress, students move into our Masters program, choosing an instrument and continuing to write, rehearse, and perform with others in bands and ensembles. Musicianship, for us, is more than private lessons—it’s a long, joyful journey of learning to speak the language of music with your friends, other musicians, and your audience.
Our Programs

Speak Music Core Curriculum : Where your path to musicianship begins
Our Core Program is a three-step path that takes students from first curiosity to real musical fluency: Primer, Middles, and Masters.
In Primer, students first step into the language of music. They sing, clap, move, and play together while exploring rhythm, melody, harmony, and simple compositional forms. Ear training, sight reading, and theory are woven in gently from day one.
In Middles, students deepen those same skills. They learn the chromatic scale, tackle more complex rhythms and reading, and take on richer composition and ensemble projects. They begin to think and listen more like independent musicians.
In Masters, students pull everything together and get ready for full instrument study. They review and strengthen core theory, reading, and ear training while adding a focused intro to piano so they can “see” how music works. By the end of Masters, students are ready to choose an instrument and step into our full Masters instrument program and bands.

Rainbow Book Program: Where real exploration begins!
The Rainbow Book Program is where students take everything they’ve learned in the Core Program and pour it into real instrument study, moving through color-coded levels that track their growth.
1. Weekly Group Class: Continuing the Language of Music
In Rainbow group class, students keep building the “language of music” together. Each week they study music theory, ear training, rhythm, sight reading, and composition, while also singing and playing in small ensembles. They share works-in-progress, give and receive feedback, and experience the joy of creating music in community. The goal is to keep their foundations growing wider and deeper as they advance.
2. Private Instrument Study: Focused, Personal Growth
Alongside group class, each student chooses an instrument and meets weekly for a private lesson. Teachers use the color-coded Rainbow Books to guide technique, reading, and musical expression step by step. Students set goals, prepare pieces, and learn how to practice well at home. Together, the group class and private lessons create a full, balanced path into confident, independent musicianship.

Speak Music Community : Experience the joy of sharing music with the best!
Speak Music is more than a set of classes—it’s a musical community rooted in Stamford and the greater New York area. In addition to weekly lessons and group work, our students connect with the broader arts scene through partnerships with organizations like Orpheus Orchestra, Orchestra Lumos, and other local professionals. These relationships open doors to master classes, behind-the-scenes rehearsal experiences, performance opportunities, and even chances for our students to compose for real musicians. We want children not only to learn music, but to feel part of a living, breathing musical community beyond our classroom walls.
